Somehow people get the notion in the noodle that it is what they believe that saves them. You believe THIS and blammo, the pearly gates are yours; however, displace a comma, add a dash or replace a quotation mark with an apostrophe, and you know what? Then it is all catastrophe. You will burn forever. And a forever (thrown in for good measure).
The thing of it is, it is what you ARE that determines what you are. The Ghost of Christmas Present looks grimly at Scrooge and says: "It is what you do with your time. Because suddenly, you are not there anymore."
