A friend of mine (yes, I DO have friends) once asked me, with that particular, knowing sneer: "What, so you base all your religious beliefs on the . . . Bible?"
I confirmed their suspicion.
Yes, I'm an odd fish. Because when I say that I base my beliefs on the Bible, I mean the Bible as I read it, the Bible as I understand it, whereas most people who claim to base all their beliefs on the Bible are in reality stating that they are basing their beliefs on what people have told or taught them about the Bible, as most people who think of themselves as "of the Book," have never even read the Book. I mean, think of the chaos, if everyone read the Bible and had to be convinced themselves, one person reads "the Sabbath was made for man," and they nod and exclaim: "See! We don't have to keep it!" Whereas another reads the same passage and exclaims: "Thank You, Lord, for making this for me!"
